The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is working to identify and remove barriers to access and participation in diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) services. Although the benefits of DSMES are well known, fewer than 5% of Medicare beneficiaries use these services in their first year of diagnosis. This CDC resource focuses on reaching populations and communities with limited access that have higher rates of diabetes and higher risk of complications.

In this update to its 2015 recommendation, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that adults, ages 35-to-70, get screened for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes if they are overweight or obese.
