Understanding and Addressing Depression in a Nursing Home Setting
This webinar features Karen Orsi, BA, director with the Oklahoma Mental Health and Aging Coalition; and Jacqueline Millspaugh, M.Ed., LPC, clinical support manager with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, who discussed how to improve care for older adults by addressing depression in nursing homes. Topics included symptoms of depression, how to identify red flags for the varied levels of care that might be needed and helpful screening tools. They also reviewed developmental expectations for Late Adulthood, key factors for successful adjustment and how to create an environment that offers opportunities for both prevention and intervention.
