Rural Emergency Hospital Resources

This podcast provides an overview of the Rural Emergency Hospital designation and explains the role of the Rural Emergency Hospital Technical Assistance Center and the types of support it provides.

Beginning January 1, 2023, rural hospitals that qualify can seek the Rural Emergency Hospital (REH) designation from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The program aims to ensure access to critical outpatient hospital services in communities that may not have a Critical Access Hospital or small rural hospital. REH-designated facilities will get enhanced Medicare payments for certain outpatient services. This webpage has links to resources that explain the program.
